Genesee's polypropylene Drosophila vials are precision moulded from pure virgin medical grade polypropylene plastic. Polypropylene vials are fully autoclavable and flexible, while maintaining enough clarity to see inside the vial. These shell vials have a straight walled design with a flat bottom to allow for easy plugging and racking. The flat bottom design keeps food from dislodging while flipping flies and allows the vial to stand upright on it's own.

These vials are narrow and come bulk packaged with 500 vials per case organized so that all open ends are facing in the same direction so they are easy to transfer to vial racks. Polypropylene culture vials are the perfect cost-effective alternative option to polystyrene vials for any Drosophila research lab.

Material Type Polypropylene
Size Narrow
Packaging Configuration Tray Packed
Outer Diameter 25mm
Height 95mm
Autoclavable? Yes
Color Clear

All polypropylene vials are fully autoclavable. We recommend autoclaving at 121°C and 15psi for 15 minutes.

These vials are narrow vials, meaning the mouth opening is 25mm as opposed to wide vials that have a mouth opening of 28.5mm. Any narrow vial plug or closure can be used with these vials. All of our narrow vial closures can be found here: https://geneseesci.com/shop-online/category/7341

We highly recommend using our Nutri-fly pre-mixed Drosophila media. This food is available in the 3 main formulations currently in use by most fly labs: Molasses, Bloomington, and German formulations. The recipes used are the same recipes used by the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center. The Nutri-fly pre-mixed media cuts out the hassle of purchasing, managing, and weighing out individual ingredients. Simply add water to the mix, bring to a boil, allow to simmer, add preservatives, then pour. Sizes are available for every Drosophila lab's needs, from single 1L packets all the way to bulk 100L powder. If you are insistent on following a Drosophila media recipe and purchasing separate ingredients, the BDSC lists their recipes here: https://bdsc.indiana.edu/information/recipes/index.html
