What is the difference between a filtered and non-filtered pipette tip?
Filter pipette tips are sterilized and contain an aerosol barrier. Non-filtered tips can be sterile or not and do not have a filter.

Aspirating samples can create an aerosol (fine mist) that can get into and contaminate the pipettor, which can lead to the cross-contamination of subsequent samples. A filter pipette tip provides an aerosol barrier to prevent pipettor contamination.
