L-15 was developed at a time when such equipment was not readily available. Dr. Leibovitz developed a buffering system based on free base amino acids, inorganic salts and the substitution of galactose for glucose.
Applications: L-15 has been used for the culture of Hep-2 monkey kidney and primary explants of embryonic and adult human tissue, and a variety of other cells. Many viruses have also been cultivated in this medium.
