Tris solutions are formulated into working concentrations for preparing the stacking and resolving portions of native or SDS-PAGE gels using discontinuous buffer systems according to Laemmli (1970) or Ornstein and Davis (1959). Tris HCl Buffer is compatible with many enzymes in molecular biology (e.g. DNA modifying enzymes).
